Children's Literature

Children love to read and to have someone read to them. Many of the books that are linked with mathematics personify concepts that children need to learn. By integrating children's literature directly into the mathematics lesson, a teacher can help children to become excited about and to gain a deeper understanding of the mathematics they are learning.

The instructional activities section of this web-site provides a number of examples of how and where to integrate some of these books into mathematics instruction. Use the IMAGES main menu to navigate to various content strands, which reference specific activities.
